6th PRIM - Vaccination

Dear families,

Following the indications of the Department of Health, and through the primary care teams, we inform you about the vaccinations that are carried out for female students in schools following the school vaccination program of Catalonia (Order SLT / 236/2019, of December 19th, which establishes the systematic vaccination schedule).

Vaccination is the best option for the prevention and control of diseases, included in the vaccination schedule, and the best alternative for both individual health and community health, as well as being a right of citizenship.

The objective of vaccination in the school is to facilitate access and continue with the vaccination schedule that begins in childhood. Getting the maximum number of people vaccinated helps control disease transmission and protect the most vulnerable people. For this reason, your collaboration is very important.

The vaccines administered in Primary 6 Education are the following ones:

  • Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV vaccine), in two doses. It protects against most infections caused by some types of HPV and is part of cervical cancer prevention strategies.
  • Hepatitis A vaccine (HA vaccine), in two doses. In the event that your daughter is vaccinated with a previous dose (at 6 years old), she will only be administered the second dose to finalize the regimen.
  • Chickenpox vaccine (vaccine V), which is administered in two doses to girls who have not had the disease, nor have they received the vaccine. In the event that your daughter is vaccinated with one dose, the second will be administered.
  • Quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MACWY vaccine), in a single dose, regardless of the administered doses of meningococcal C conjugate vaccine (MC vaccine). It is convenient to apply this dose even if the students have already received other doses of the MC vaccine. It is a booster to avoid the disease, since it has been observed that immunity can decrease with the passage of time and includes protection against other serogroups (A, C, W and Y) not included in the MC vaccine. With the use of the MACWY vaccine, additional protection is offered against serogroups A, C, W and Y not included in the vaccine used so far (MC vaccine).

In general, all of these vaccines are well tolerated, although they may cause local discomfort (swelling and redness at the puncture site), or general malaise (fever, fainting, or headache). They practically never produce serious adverse effects.

The Montilivi CAP * pediatric team will move to Les Alzines to do so according to the following schedule:

  • On Tuesday, October the 19th, 2021 (9am) - 1st dose of hepatitis A and 1st dose of HPV9;
  • On Tuesday, November the 23rd, 2021 (9am) - 1st dose of varicella and MACWY;
  • On Tuesday, May the 3rd, 2022 (9am) - 2nd dose of hepatitis A and 2nd dose of HPV9.

If there is a student who needs a 2nd dose of chickenpox, she should go to her CAP.

* We are informed by CAP Montilivi that vaccination will be conditioned by the uncertainty surrounding the behavior that the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus may present.

We ask that, before October the 14th, you give your daughter's tutor a photocopy of the page of the vaccines she has received so far, along with the sheet with the authorization of the vaccines that you want to be administered at school.

The vaccination book must be delivered to the tutor before the day of vaccination, so that the nurse in charge completes the corresponding section. This book will remain in the possession of the school until the moment of vaccination, and we will return it to you once the students have received the first dose of the vaccine. When they have to receive the next doses we will ask you again.

Only female students who bring parental authorization along with the vaccination book will be vaccinated.

For any information about these vaccines, you can contact your daughters' pediatrician.

Thank you very much for your collaboration, and we remain at your disposal for any questions.
